Podcasting makes it into the Oxford English Dictionary – noun: a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar programme, made available on the Internet for downloading to a personal audio player.

Podcasting allows the distribution or downloading of audio or video files such as radio programs, interviews, music videos as well as a host of other potential applications over the Internet to be viewed or listened to on mobile devices as well as personal computers.

Subscribing to a podcast allows a user to collect programs from a variety of sources for listening or viewing either online or off-line through a portable device. The ability to “aggregate” programs from multiple sources is a major attraction to podcasting.

Media On Demand has launched a podcasting solution which has grabbed the imagination of sports and betting sites across Europe as well as information websites including the National Archives who are using it to provide downloads of historical information. The Judiciary of England and Wales have also embraced podcasting for delivery of an interview with the Lord Chief Justice.
